Electrician FAQ

Twenty questions we answer on the phone most weeks, written out so you do not have to ask. If yours is not here, call (888) 633-7804.

What areas of Utah do you cover?

All 255 incorporated cities and towns in Utah, plus the unincorporated areas around them. Every city has its own page listing the services available there — start at the service areas index.

Are you really available 24 hours a day?

Yes. The phone line is answered every hour of every day including holidays. Emergency calls are dispatched immediately rather than queued for the next business morning.

How does your pricing work?

Flat price, quoted and agreed before work begins. That includes the after-hours rate if you are calling at night. There is no hourly meter running while we diagnose the fault.

Do you charge a separate diagnostic fee?

Diagnosis is quoted as its own line item so you know the number before we open anything. If you approve the repair, we tell you what that comes to first.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Burning smells, smoke, sparks, scorch marks, a panel that is hot or buzzing, a breaker that trips instantly on every reset, water that has reached wiring, and total loss of power when the street still has it. Call rather than wait on any of those.

Should I keep resetting a breaker that trips?

No. Once is reasonable. Twice is pushing it. A third reset on a breaker that trips instantly is overriding a safety device that is doing exactly what it exists to do.

Do you pull permits?

Yes, for panel upgrades, service changes, rewires, new circuits and anything else the local jurisdiction requires. Permitted work is on record, which matters at resale.

How soon can you come out?

Emergencies go out immediately. Repairs and diagnostics often have same-day slots. Larger scheduled work — panels, rewires, generators — normally books inside the week.

Do you work on commercial property?

Offices, restaurants, retail, warehouses and light industrial. Most commercial work is scheduled outside trading hours. See commercial electrician.

Can you install an EV charger on my existing panel?

Often yes. It depends on your service size and existing load, which we calculate before quoting. Details on the EV charger page.

Do I need a 200 amp service?

Only if the load calculation says so. Plenty of homes are better served by a sub panel or by right-sizing the new equipment. We will tell you which applies.

What is wrong with a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel?

Both have documented histories of breakers that fail to trip under fault conditions. They look normal and reset normally, which is exactly the problem. Replacement is the fix.

Can you rewire a house we are living in?

Yes. We work room by room and restore power to finished areas each evening. Most families stay put through a rewire.

Why do my LED lights flicker?

Usually a dimmer designed for incandescent bulbs, or mismatched bulbs on one circuit. An LED-rated dimmer and consistent bulbs fixes it in a single short visit.

Half my outlets stopped working. What now?

Press reset on every GFCI in the house, including garage, bathrooms and exterior. If that does not do it, there is likely a loose neutral on the run and it needs tracing.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, in writing, covering both workmanship and the parts we supply. The terms come with your quote so you can read them before agreeing.

Will you tell me what caused the problem?

Always. You will know what failed, why it failed, what we did, and whether anything else on the system is heading the same way.

Do you handle generator servicing as well as installation?

Yes — oil, filters, battery and a load test. The most common generator failure we attend is a unit that has not been serviced since it was installed.

What payment methods do you take?

Card, bank transfer and cash. Larger projects use a simple written stage schedule.

Can you come out on a weekend or holiday?

Yes, every day of the year. The after-hours rate is quoted to you before you agree to anything.

Still not sure? Ask us directly.

Emergency calls answered 24 hours a day. Scheduled work usually books within the same week. One flat price, quoted before we start.
