Questions about electrical panel upgrade
How do I know my Utah home needs a panel upgrade?
The usual signs are a fuse box instead of breakers, a panel that is full with no room for a new circuit, breakers that warm up under normal load, lights that dim when the dryer or AC starts, and a service rated at 60 or 100 amps in a house that has since added air conditioning, a hot tub or an EV charger.
How long does a panel upgrade take in Utah?
A straight panel swap is usually a one-day job. A full service upgrade that includes the meter base and a new mast runs one to two days because the power has to be dropped and restored by the utility, which we schedule for you so your Utah home is not without power longer than it needs to be.
Do you pull the permit?
Yes. We handle the permit and the inspection for panel and service work in Utah and coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with the utility. You should never pay a contractor who suggests skipping the permit on service equipment.
Can you add a sub panel instead of upgrading the main?
Sometimes, and it is often cheaper. If your main service has enough capacity but the panel is simply out of spaces, a sub panel in the garage or basement solves it. We measure actual load at your Utah property before recommending either route.
